WELCOME TO WINDERMERE
Windermere was founded back in 1887, a small town located in Orange County, Florida. Windermere has a population of over 2000 people and works hard to retain that small town charm and feel. Windermere sometime referred to as the island village among the lakes, is just 14 miles away from Orlando, yet the difference in pace is worlds apart. Most of the residents who live in Windermere have built their homes on magnificent and pristine Butler Chain of Lakes.
The historic town of Windermere has been completely refurbished and many local functions from wedding to social functions take place in its turn of the century interiors. You will still find many streets in the downtown area that are paved with dirt and pine straw. A few small businesses form the downtown area and this is the way the residents would like to keep it. The newest residential communities built on the towns doorstep are some of the most expensive in the country. They are the homes to many movie stars, national sports figures, large corporation CEOs and foreign dignitaries. The town council has restricted growth and commercialism so that Windermere can remain the little Florida citrus town amid the beautiful chain of lakes.
The town's logo is based on that of the Town of Windermere in England. (The top left quarter shows three Windermere class yachts, which were quite famous at one time. The top right quarter is symbolic of an ancient gate denoting Windermere as the gateway to the Lake District. The bottom left quarter represents the flag of Saint George, the Patron Saint of England. The bottom right quarter represents three char, a rare and delicious species of trout, which are caught in Lake Windermere at a depth of at least 90 feet using gold or gold-plated lures).
The residents of Windermere can enjoy the town hall, the Chase Memorial Library, Cal Palmer Memorial Building, named after one of its founding residents. There is an array of fine art galleries and stores with handcrafted gifts. Windermere is also very close to some great outlet malls such as Millennia Mall, known for its upscale stores and fine dining, The Florida Mall and Belz Factory Outlet which features over 170 outlet stores.
Keene's Pointe in Windermere is nestled beside the shores of Lake Tibet-Butler, Keene's Pointe has 14 distinctive neighborhood communities that offer a gracious lifestyle. The Golden Bear Club tucked away in Keene's Pointe offers Jack Niklaus Signature Golf Course with some of the most breathtaking views and challenging holes you'll find anywhere else.
